Is the Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom an intense ride?
I'm going to the Magic Kingdom for the first time next month. I've been checking information about the rides and so far I think I can do all of them but I'm not sure about space mountain, is it too intense? The name makes me think of Mission Space, I know it's a completely different ride but since I heard a kid died on that thing I don't wanna hear about it. Any information?

- yup. You're riding a roller coaster in the dark. It sucks. California Adventures is Waaaaay better.
- Space mountain is an indoor rollercoaster. If you like roller coasters it's pretty awesome. Make sure you go on Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain too....I love the Magic kingdom and have been every summer since I was 12.
- SO FUN!
- Not too intense. Good first time roller-coaster.
- it really isn't that intense it's a really good starter coaster if you're still a little scared
- I went on when i was 7 and have been going every 2 mounths its awsomness
- Compared to other rollercoasters, it is not intense, but more exciting. The ride is themed in the dark, but on a scale of intensity compared with other coasters, it is about a 5 on a scale of 1-10.
- I've been to WDW 3 times and probably did space mountain at least 2000000000 times :) but on a more serious note i'ts really not that intense. It's very exciting because there are stars all over the place and It's nothing like mission space... never heard of a kid dying though... you should have an amazing time and also, you should really try the pretzels they sell right at the entrance. Carousel of progress is also very interesting though it's not a thrill ride, it's right around the corner.
- It might not matter.. Space mountain is closed for refurbishing.. You can check the Disney site to see if it will even be open when you are there.
- Okay. First of all, nobody died on Space Mountain! That's completely ridiculous and stupid. Don't believe everything you hear. But a couple of my friends have been on that ride and I think it's just like the new Mummy ride in Universal. Basically, a roller coaster in the dark. But if you're afraid of roller coasters.... DON'T BE!! They're loads and loads of fun!! I recommend going on Great Bear in Hershey Park for your first real coaster. I had the same problem a few days ago where I was deathly afraid of roller coasters. Hope that helps!
- it is not too intense. it jerks you around though. but it is not scary. definitely go on it and do not miss out! it is very fun. go in the front if you want the most fun. have a great time at WDW!
- its true a kid died on mission space but like you said its a compeltely different ride than space mountain. and he died cuz he had an undetected heart condition it wasn't the rides "fualt". space mountain is a roller coaster. its not an extremely intense roller coaster by any means. its in the dark and has sharp turns and sudden drops with speeds that max out at about 35mph. in my opinion its not "too intense". you said you are going next month well unfortunately if thats the case you won't even be able to think about going on space mountain anyways cuz its closed for refurbishment until november 21st 2009.
- Its kind of cool since its indoor and dark. Kind of like a rite of passage for most Americans. The good news is...if you want to ride it youre going to have to come back again after December because it is closed for repairs until then. They are doing some upgrades (just the cars and effects, not track layout) so it might be even better.
- i have gone on it about 500 times ( season pass holder now for 10 years) my mom isnt a coaster person yet likes this one not super scary.
- I'm pretty sure that someone died on Space Mountain as well as Mission Space, but usually the people who die at Disney World have like Heart Conditions and ride anyways so it's nothing to worry about. (Unless you DO have a condition that prohibits you from riding) It's fun, not scary. Quick drops, sudden turns.. It's not intense, certainly not as intense as the orange side of mission space.
- Space Mountain is not very intense. It's wild by Disney standards, but Disney attractions are intentionally family friendly. Space Mountain just seems wild because you can't see where you're going so everything that happens is a suprise. Mission Space is very different. It creates artificial gravity. A healthy teenager or adult shouldn't be affected, but sometimes people ride on it with undiagnosed medical problems and it brings those problems to the surface. Space Mountain shouldn't do that (but it has happened). Any ride can malfunction and Space Mountain has hurt people in the past. It's a good ride though so you should ride it anyway.
- No, it's not intense. The only sort of scary part about it is that it's dark inside but they have stars all around so it's not bad. It's a lot of fun!
