how do i travel between Disney World resorts?
I am planning on going on my honeymoon to Disney World toward the end of March 2012. I am hoping to go to a hotel (not disney) near one of their resorts and either walk or take free transportation to a different Disney park each day. I am wondering if they are within walking distance of each other or if I will have to rent a car and drive to each park. Also I live in California, so will the humidity in Florida be bad around March/April?

- Disney World is not like Disney Land. There are no outside hotels within walking distance of any of the parks or resorts, except Downtown Disney. They have deliberately re-routed those buses so it will take you forever to get to the parks. Disney has thought this through, and trust me, they have made it pretty much mandatory to drive or stay in one of their resorts. It's your honeymoon, for the sake of your new bride and marriage, don't try to get around the parking fee. :) Plus the parks in Disney World are significantly bigger than the ones in Disney Land, just walking around those will wear you out. I suggest you google "Disney World" under the maps option and you'll see how big 43 square miles is. The parks are not within walking distance of each other, but you can take buses or monorails between them. If you drive, you will only have to pay the parking fee once and you will get a pass good for all the parks. Compared to California, the humidity will be bad.
- To avoid a rental car, definitely consider staying in a Disney resort. If you are set on another hotel, you will need a car. And you will need to pay parking each day you visit the parks.
- Agree with Geez, but would suggest that unless you have big pockets, staying at a Disney resort is not the best option. There are some reasonable hotels in Kissimmee, that are just a short drive away from all the parks, as stated walking is not really a good option.
- There are a handful of hotels/motels that offer shuttles to Disney, but they are very very limited times, only a couple times per day. Basically it can be a waste to have to go back to the hotel 3 or 4 hours before the park closes, considering tickets are so expensive. If you're staying off property you'd be better off renting a car. Cabs are really expensive but they'll be your only option if you want to stay later than your hotel shuttle runs or if you miss it or something. Disney World property is the size of San Francisco; you can't just walk up to the parks. Nothing is close enough for that off property. But considering that costs rental fees, insurance, gas, $14 per day to park at Disney parksetc.-- you might find it more convenient to just stay at the Disney resorts because they have great complimentary transportation to and from the airport and between all the resorts & parks & attractions. The money that would have been spent on the rental can just be put towards the room.
- There are no outside hotels that are walking distance to the Disney parks. Even within Disney, there are very few hotels that are walking distance to Disney parks. The parks are also not walking distance to each other. There are buses that travel between parks, and you can use the monorail to go between EPCOT and Magic Kingdom. If you stay off-site, you'll have to rent a car and drive to the park. Parking is $14 a day at Disney. Some do have shuttles to Disney, but they are often not very regular, reliable, or convenient. If you stay on Disney property, you can receive free bus transportation from your resort to the parks. They drop you off at the front gate and it's very convenient. They run regularly all day, from several hours before park opening to at least an hour after park closing. If you stay on Disney property and still choose to drive, your parking is free. You can find decent rates at the Disney Value resorts, all of which are quite nice. They may still be a little higher than some non-Disney resorts nearby, but the convenience is worth it in my opinion.
- Disney World has 4 parks, and they ARE NOT walking distance. Most of the hotels near Disney have free shuttles that you can take to the parks. I stayed at the Holiday Inn near Downtown Disney and took the free shuttles to the parks.
